GW Integrative Medicine Programs faculty appointed to influential NIH National Cancer Institute Editorial Board

Misha and NIH NCI Editorial Board Appointment

Mikhail Kogan, MD, ABIOM, RCST, medical director of the GW Center for Integrative Medicine and associate professor of Medicine at the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences, was recently appointed to the National Cancer Institute’s PDQ® Cancer Integrative, Alternative, and Complementary Therapies Editorial Board.

The board consists of experts in the fields of oncology, pharmacology, natural products, drug discovery and development, traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and homeopathy. This Editorial Board meets quarterly to write and update information summaries on integrative, alternative, and complementary therapies for cancer.

The NCI’s PDQ® Editorial Boards are responsible for producing and maintaining comprehensive, evidence-based cancer information summaries. The institute makes the summaries available to health professionals, patients, researchers, and the general public as a free service.

Dr. Kogan is a renowned expert on medical marijuana who speaks nationally and internationally on the topic, he co-designed a groundbreaking online continuing education courses on medical cannabis, adverse effects and drug interactions as well as medical cannabis and pain for the District of Columbia Department of Health (DC DOH). 

The summaries are part of the comprehensive, evidence-based, up-to-date cancer content made available as a public service of the NCI. The summaries are written by Editorial Boards of cancer experts and provide the strength of the evidence for specific interventions. The summaries are fully referenced with links to published literature.

Dr. Kogan is the co-author of “Medical Marijuana: Dr. Kogan’s Evidence-Based Guide to the Health Benefits of Cannabis and CBD.” He is also the editor of the first definitive textbook of the field of Integrative Geriatrics–“Integrative Geriatric Medicine, ” which was published by Oxford University Press as part of Andrew Weil Integrative Medicine Library series. He is a frequent speaker at a variety of international conferences on the topics of Integrative Medicine and Geriatrics, healthy aging, and geriatrics, as well as neurodegenerative diseases.
